Don J. DeGroot
Principal InvestigatorAssociate Professor - University of Massachusetts Amherst
Research:
- Seabed Sediment Sampling and Evaluation of Sample Quality
- Implementation of Full Flow Penetrometers in OffShore Practice
- In-Situ Measurement of Sediment Pore Pressure
Professor DeGroot's research experience is primarily in the area of soil behavior and environmental geotechnics with special emphasis on laboratory and field measurements for site characterization programs. During the past ten years, Dr. DeGroot has been a Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on research projects sponsored by the Department of Defense, Federal Highway Administration, Massachusetts Highway Department, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, National Science Foundation and the Navy Research Laboratory. Topics of the research include stress-strain-strength behavior of soft clays, field sampling of soils, sealing geotechnical exploratory boreholes, and characterization of hydrocarbon and salt contaminated sites. He recently served as the technical chair for the ASCE Geo-Institute conference GeoCongress 2006 in Atlanta, and is the chair of the ASCE G-I Soil Properties and Modeling Committee.
